FanBants provides a weekly ranking of the top players in the English Premier League.
Here’s our updated list ahead of Gameweek 16:
Mohamed Salah
Last ranking: 1st
Despite Liverpool’s Merseyside derby against archrivals Everton being postponed due to poor weather conditions, Salah deservedly retains top spot in this list.
There simply isn’t a player in a richer vein of form than the Egyptian maestro at the moment. Salah sits atop both the goal-scoring and assist charts at Liverpool, having scored 13 goals and contributed another 8 assists.
Marco Silva’s Fulham need to be on top of their game if they plan on getting a result at Anfield this weekend.
Erling Haaland
Last ranking: 3rd
The dry spell is over! After three games without a goal, Erling Haaland returned to the scoresheet last week in Manchester City’s four-goal stalemate at Selhurst Park.
As Pep Guardiola’s charges strive to return to their usual lofty standards, they will be looking to the big Norwegian to do what he does best – find the back of the net. Despite hitting a rough patch, Haaland is joint top scorer in the Premier League this season, with 13 goals to his name.
Up against cross-city rivals Manchester United this weekend, Haaland could make a claim for top spot in next week’s rankings with a special performance.
Bukayo Saka
Last ranking: 2nd
After an uncharacteristically quiet outing away at Fulham last week, Bukayo Saka is down a spot following Arsenal’s 1-1 draw.
Undoubtedly very talented, Saka has been the main creative spark at Arsenal this season, scoring five goals and contributing an impressive 11 assists – the most in the Premier League this season.
An integral part of the Mikel Arteta project, Saka is approaching 100 goal contributions in the Premier League, currently standing at 97!
Alexander Isak
Last ranking: 6th
The Alexander Isak hype train might not be slowing down anytime soon. The versatile Swede continues to put in high-quality performances, despite Newcastle’s inconsistent form.
Three goals and two assists in his last five games, and a total of six in 13 appearances, speak to a striker with the potential to move up a level. Even in Newcastle’s 4-2 loss away at Brentford, Isak was at his imperious best, and he leveled the game for the Magpies before Brentford ran away with the affair.
As Leicester visit St. James’ Park this weekend, you can be sure that Isak will be a handful for the Foxes’ defenders.
Bryan Mbuemo
Last ranking: 8th
After three consecutive weeks with no returns, Brentford’s impressive Bryan Mbuemo delivered the goods against Newcastle.
Mbuemo was key from the start of the game until the very end, scoring an early opener and providing the assist for Brentford’s fourth of the afternoon.
On the road away this weekend, Thomas Frank’s men will be looking to this Cameroonian winger to add to his nine goals in this campaign.
Chris Wood
Last ranking: 8th
The Chris Wood revival under Nuno Espírito Santo continues to shock and amaze in equal parts.
The quintessential orthodox target man, Wood plays a crucial role as the focal point of Nottingham Forest’s attack.
He might not have the pace, trickery, or versatility of most modern forwards, but you can count on him to do one thing – score goals.
His header away at Manchester United last week, the eventual winner, was his 10th goal of this campaign.
Cole Palmer
Last ranking: Unranked
Four goals and an assist in his last three games sees Cole Palmer make a return to the Power Rankings.
The Chelsea forward is not showing any signs of slowing down following his impressive debut campaign, already recording 11 goals so far and delivering another six assists.
As Brentford visit Stamford Bridge this weekend, you can trust that there would be goals, and that Cole Palmer would not be far from the action.
Yoane Wissa
Last ranking: 9th
The second half of Brentford’s dynamic attacking duo, Yoane Wissa, is up a spot for last week’s rankings.
The Congolese forward has scored in three consecutive home games for Thomas Frank’s side and has recorded an admirable ten goal contributions (nine goals and one assist) in only 12 games this campaign.
He doubled Brentford’s lead in their 4-2 drubbing of Newcastle at home last week, and he’ll hope to get more returns this week when the Bees visit Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Nicolas Jackson
Last ranking: 4th
Dropping five spots from last week’s rankings, Nicolas Jackson is the penultimate player on this week’s power rankings.
Although this might seem a bit harsh considering Jackson’s newly discovered confidence in front of goal, recall that our rankings are based largely on performances in recent game weeks.
Citing squad rotation, Enzo Maresca made the bold decision to rest Jackson against Southampton, and when he did return to the side against Tottenham, he put out a below-par performance.
As already mentioned, Jackson has seemingly found his scoring boots for Chelsea this campaign, finding the back of the net eight times, and is only six goals away from his tally for the whole of last season.
We’re tipping the Senegalese forward to climb a few places by this time next week.
Matheus Cunha
Last ranking: 5th
It’s hard to tell what more Matheus Cunha can do to save his darling Wolves.
Cunha is making a solid argument for being the best player outside the top 7 clubs in the league. The Brazilian forward is surprisingly versatile, having featured on either flank, as the main creator in the number ‘10’ position, and even as a supporting striker.
Despite contributing seven goals and three assists so far, Wolves are still firmly rooted in a relegation scrap, with Cunha failing to score or assist in the last three game weeks.
Up against fellow relegation candidates, Ipswich Town, Cunha will be expected to play a crucial role in this must-win match.
